Hugh’s Photo Challenge Week #6: Unused

I had some fun with Hugh’s challenge this week; to post a photo of something that is/was ‘unused.’ I was not happy with the background of my original image, so I tried playing with it using dreamscope.

The original photo was taken a few years ago. One day, I happened to need some onions for a recipe. After opening up my cupboard, I discovered an unusual surprise.  An ‘unused’ bunch of cooking onions had created new life. I just had to take a photo of it, but with no thought of placing the basket of new growth in a more photogenic environment. I was not able to use the bulbs since they were too soft and starting to rot. Thanks Hugh for the interesting topic.

  2. Nice one. Even when we kill our plants they struggle to live in spite of us. Like potatoes

You are so right, Lindy. I realized it also after I posted it. It also fits Hugh’s past challenge of “What’s in your cupboard.’

I’ve discovered those kind of surprises too, although I didn’t think to take photos of them. I love the special effects you applied to the photo!

Thanks, Trisha. I agree with you that I’ve also lost some photo moments in the past by not taking that shot and it’s usual because other people are around or in the moment I think it’s too mundane. Thanks for commenting.

  7. Hi Olga, thanks for participating in my weekly photo challenge.

Your photo bought back memories of when I was at school and we grew plants by placing an onion on top of an open jar filed with water. After a few days the onion produced roots and then, to our surprise, it started sprouting a stem and leaves. I can’t remember if it flowered.

Great effects from the photography software you have used. I like the result very much.
