Memories rooted
Embraced by a kiss of light
Forever in wood
These images in wood embrace many memories.
I’ll start with the wooden eagle. It was handed down to me from my mother who received it as a gift from her sister in Ukraine years ago.
The wooden sculpture of two faces was my only attempt at carving in wood when I was a young adult with dreams of being a professional artist.
The turtle key chain on the eagle’s wing was a gift from my oldest daughter a few years back when she went to Hawaii. One of my dream travel locations, but I’ve never been.
Finally, a black, wooden pepper mill, that belongs to my youngest daughter (on the right). I loved how the late afternoon light just barely highlights the outer form.
Thanks to TJ for inspiring my day.
Lovely altar.

Thank-you Marissa for the lovely comment. These tangible memories have lived in different parts of my home and they were surprised to be brought together for a portrait. They didn’t realize that they would be basking in the sunlight. Ha ha!

An amazing image Olga capturing light and shadow, that curve of the pepper mill is great. The haiku is a very powerful one .

Thank-you Denis for the wonderful comment. I must have taken over 200 shots, but only one captured the pepper mill that way.

A brilliant combination of image and poetry. So thrilled that the prompt inspired this wonderful result. I echo the remarks of others when I say that your carving is so impressive. I would love to be able to carve such a lovely piece. The eagle is also truly amazing and I love that it has travelled both through time and across the globe through your family.

Gorgeous images and wonderful photography! I love wood; the look, the feel, the smell. I am quite lacking in artistic skills myself, but I had a Dad who loved to work with wood and who passed that love onto me. Thank you for the poetry and the beautiful image!

Thank-you, Vashti. I actually went to an art college years ago, but my path in life changed. Now I’ve found my creative spark again with blogging. Hawaii will come if it’s meant to be. 🙂
