Before Green Pastures

Before

Coloring my world

Wisdom had to be earned

Laws of the universe

Took hold

Painting stories of drought and storms

Always one finger above water

I learned the hard way

To follow my inner voice

Then suddenly the sky cleared

Just for that moment

The wind’s direction changed

The greens shone through

In waking hours

Now detours are embraced

With gratitude of heart

“Embrace the detours.” (Kevin Charbonneau)

Intrigued by this poem, Olga. I read it three ways – altogether, just the bold, just the regular font – there are many layers. Lines that caught me: ” Before/ I could colour my world”, “always one finger above water”, and “detours are embraced”. An empowering poem.

Green can be interpreted in different ways. I love how you have shaped it here as the colour of hope.
