Cracking the Code

The crack is before me

Do I step over it

And stay in the safe zone

Or do I step on it

And force destiny’s hand

Do I hold its hand

And play the victim

Or do I laugh at it

And ignore its power

Do I sing to it

And pray for forgiveness

Or do I love it

And embrace its lesson

Do I photograph it

And claim the moment

Or do I live in it

And make it my story

I love this! I remember the daring of stepping on cracks as a child. Now I’ll be watching for them again. (K)

  4. This reminds me so much of a time I hiked across Volcano National Park in Hawaii. The cracks were huge and you could see the lava inside. I was scared to death! Even stepping over them, I was afraid the edge would give away and I’d fall in. Later, sitting in a the forest by the crater, I saw a couple and an elderly woman crossing just where I had, talking and not making much notice of the cracks. I guess fear has a lot to do with one’s choice. Great poem. I really enjoyed your presentation of all those options.

Thank-you for sharing your story about lava cracks. I think I’d have a bit of healthy trepidation stepping over one of those also. I think fear guides some of our choices in life. Fear of failure, fear of not being good enough, fear of being alone… Happy that you liked my post, LuAnne. ❤
