Perfume sniff jolting
Nostrils quaking, heartbreaking
Fresh air space brings joy
My daughter (M.) has many severe allergies. Someone with perfume on, just walking by, and her body reacts. We’ve gone to many restaurants and M. always notifies the waitress of her seafood allergy. We’ve never had a problem until a few weeks ago.
Well, a lady at a table close to us was saturated with heavy perfume. M.’s throat started tingling. To top it off, the lady’s order came and the fish aroma was overwhelming. Then came the final insult to M.’s sensitive body. Our order arrived, M. tasted her food and started to get bumps on her tongue. Time to leave even though we’d barely touched our food. Called for doggy bags. Heartbreaking that we couldn’t enjoy our evening out.
Within a minute of getting fresh air after we escaped, M. was fine. She always carries Benadryl with her just in case, but didn’t have to use it this time. Her throat didn’t swell up like it has in the past. Lucky her!
M. just found out she’s allergic to avocado, also. The journey continues.

Sorry about your real life experience for the haiku. It is so unusual and the picture is adorable. Not so in real life, I’m sure.

Thank-you, Oneta. It can be a difficult situation when new allergies crop up unexpectedly or when restaurants cross-contaminate.

Oh, it must be rough to try and avoid so many allergens. Best wishes for your daughter.

Thanks for your well wishes, Barbara. It’s strange that her allergies started in late teens. No signs in the early days.

Oh gosh. Your daughter’s allergies sound severe. We have allergy sufferers in our family but nothing that severe. My face swells up from certain insect bites but luckily it’s never been life threatening. I hope your daughter’s immune system gets stronger. There are so many allergens in the environment these days.

Too bad that she has to deal with that! There should probably be a law against people who wear too much perfume/cologne.

There is a law here in Canada that applies to schools and government buildings, but doesn’t apply to stores or restaurants. Thanks Marissa.

Certainly a haiku coming from experience, maybe a Mexican Taco restaurant next time?
